About CSD

The Centre for Sustainable Development is a policy research and public advocacy centre at the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics. The Centre  intends to engage in cutting edge research in the field of sustainable development and policy advocacy

CSD will provide a scholarly  environment for doctoral and post-doctoral research. The Centre will also undertake applied research with government and industry. 

Legacy

The Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, established in 1930, has been one of the pioneering research institutions in India known for its contribution to empirical research methods, policy advocacy, and seminal contributions to policymaking for nearly a century.

The CSD is constituted as an academic centre of excellence and research within the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics.

Aditi Deodhar

Senior Research Associate

Aditi has a master’s degree in Industrial Mathematics with Computer Applications, with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and PG diploma in Sustainable Management of Natural Resources & Nature Conservation. 
She has worked in IT sector for a few years. 
In the year 2014, she co-founded an organization, Jeevitnadi – Living River Foundation with the objective of river revival through people participation.
In 2016, She created a forum with the goal – ‘Not a single dry leaf should be burnt in India’. Thanks to it, each year about lacs of gunny bags of dry leaves go back to the soil. She has written books for children, with a focus on history, geography and environment. “

Komal Dhiwar​

Research Associate

Komal has completed her Masters in Economics and her areas of interest include Development Economics,Environmental Economics and Circular Economy in the Indian Fashion Industry

Komal has a diverse professional background, starting in Amazon’s operational unit for retail and market research in North America. Then she obtained a Junior Research Fellowship in Economics and worked as a Research Fellow at SIBM, Pune.

Previously, she has taught undergraduate students Economics in junior colleges. She is passionate about sustainability and has actively volunteered with NGOs and social clubs like the Rotaract Club of Pune Shaniwarwada, advocating for positive change.

Soomrit Chattopadhyay

Research Associate

Soomrit is a Young professional in the environment sector currently working on water and wastewater treatment and water resource management-related projects. He has a Bachelors in Chemical Engineering and MSc in Water Policy and Governance from TISS Mumbai. 

We work on socio-ecological issues, study sustainable pathways, and experiment with solutions that contribute to the UN-SDGs.
